The Red Khan – A Historic Gem in Safed's Old City
The structure was built in 1276 by the governor Baibars after he conquered Safed from the Crusaders and established it as the regional capital. The building served as a mosque, now known as the Red Khan. Originally, it was called Al-Jami' al-Ahmar (the Red Mosque).
